“I’ll ride the subway to the very end,” he declares. Doo-shik angrily yells, “Do you even know who I am?!” But So-joon doesn’t hear him and hollers that there’s nothing in this world that he can do nothing about. They’re both bumbling drunks when they finally exit the pojangmacha, and So-joon tells Doo-shik to butt out of his future. Frustrated, So-joon tearfully asks if he’s supposed to let things happen even if he has prior knowledge then. It’s because Doo-shik acts like an all-knowing oracle that So-joon can’t trust him, though he’s told it isn’t any better than trying to solve every problem with time travel like he does. So-joon asks why Doo-shik bothers to time travel so often then, and he’s told that he’ll find out when the time comes. He wishes So-joon would stop trying to figure out the future because trying to stop the inevitable could make things worse. But he’s still upset that So-joon suspected him, and So-joon drunkenly mumbles that Doo-shik definitely knows something and he’s keeping it a secret.ĭoo-shik steels himself before telling So-joon that his future could be even bleaker than he thinks. Later that night over drinks, Doo-shik claims Se-young’s father’s death was an accident. Although Se-young’s father’s death is hard on her too, she can understand So-joon’s desire to pinpoint a culprit since he’d be able to place blame on a human versus fate. She replies there was one, but she didn’t find particularly anything off about it. Knowing that he means a time-traveling trip, she asks, “A year from now? Or two years?” She reminds him that he isn’t a cop and they should go home, but So-joon leaves anyway.Īfter Ma-rin learns that she and Ki-doong could’ve passed Se-young’s father at the first construction site, she’s asked if she saw a strange car there. They’re interrupted by Ma-rin’s arrival, and So-joon says he has to go to check on something. Ki-doong says this is a hard time for him too, but he thinks So-joon is acting out of guilt, not reason. To that, So-joon argues that despite their best efforts to prevent the tragedy altogether, Se-young’s father still died on the same day and time, albeit at a different location. Although Ki-doong is wary about agreeing with the cops, he has a harder time accepting the idea Se-young’s father was murdered. So-joon doesn’t understand how that’s possible, since Ki-doong and Ma-rin were at the first construction site but didn’t see Se-young’s father. Additionally, Se-young’s father was known to perform routine site inspections, and tracking his phone’s GPS revealed that he stopped at two construction sites that day. He’s told the body showed no obvious signs of struggle and there were no CCTV cameras in the area. But the hardest lesson of all lies with our resident time traveler, who has yet to realize that his constant trips to another point in time means that he’s always leaving someone behind.Īt the police station, So-joon is livid when Se-young’s father’s death is ruled as an accident. It turns out that knowing more about the future isn’t always an advantage nor does it mean that our characters are ever prepared for what might lie ahead of them. 108 MaMaTomorrow With You: Episode 11 by gummimochiīeing married to a time traveler isn’t easy, but it warms my heart to see Ma-rin try her best to make their marriage work anyway. 8/9/2023 0 Comments Freeze plug installer toolWebNeed to know the best Freeze Plug Installation Tool? When a soldier requires special medical attention, they may be issued an additional red tag with pertinent information. The duplication is so that one tag can be collected for notification while the other is kept on the corpse if the body of the wearer cannot be recovered immediately. In other cases, soldiers will wear a tag around the neck and keep the other inside their shoes. They contain two copies of information, as a single tag that can be broken in half, or as two identical tags on one chain. Here are examples of dog tags from each military branch for your reference. There may also be tags for Special Forces used by the Special Operations, like the Army Rangers, Green Berets, Delta Force, Navy Seals, Commandos, etc. Other examples include “Agnostic” and “Atheist”.Īdditionally, the tag can imprint the wearer’s specific military branch, which is one of the five: Army, Air Force, Navy, Marine Corps, and Coast Guard. There is no list of “approved” religions, so technically, soldiers can put down any preference they want on the tag. However, today, there is an option for “None”-no religious preference as well. Previously, for “religious preference”, soldiers could only put “Protestant”, “Catholic”, “Hebrew”. Military dog tag information includes the wearer’s name, blood type, social security number (SSN), and religious preference. Nowadays, the tags are “official” and thus, standardized. By the same token, there were no standards on what information was included. However, at the time, these were not “official” tags. These tags can be traced back to the Civil War when soldiers wrote their basic information on a strip of paper and pinned it onto their uniforms.Īnother reason is that they can be identified just in case they were severely injured or killed. All soldiers are required to wear the tags at all times. They are for identifying the wounded or dead. The more official and formal name for these, however, are identification tags. This name arose as the tags resemble actual tags that dogs wear. What Put on Military Dog Tags (Then & Now)Īs mentioned briefly earlier, the tags that military personnel wear around their necks are called dog tags. There’s no way you’re sleeping through this. Featuring sounds like police sirens or car alarms. Just an annoying, blaring, loud alarm clock. This app does exactly what it says it does. If you never want to sleep through your alarm again, Alarmy is perfect. Best of all, it can only be turned off when you take a photo of something specific (like your downstairs coffeepot, your shower head, your toothbrush, etc.). The alarm is loud, obnoxious, and very annoying. Androidīilled as “the world’s most annoying alarm app,” Alarmy is another app that literally forces you out of bed. So hit your steps for the morning and shut off your alarm. You can’t mute it, you can’t snooze it, you can’t pause it-if you don’t get your lazy, tired ass out of bed and move, it’ll just keep going. Imagine an alarm that blares at you until you get out of bed and literally walk around. The concept for this app is positively ingenious. So, with Daylight Savings just around the corner, we’ve rounded up some of the best alarm apps to get you up and out of bed. NPR transcripts are created on a rush deadline by an NPR contractor. Visit our website terms of use and permissions pages at for further information. (SOUNDBITE OF DON ROSS AND CALUM GRAHAM'S "THE CHANNEL")Ĭopyright © 2021 NPR. In Joplin, it's taken a full decade, and some residents are healing still.įor NPR News, I'm Frank Morris in Joplin, Mo. MORRIS: Anger that can worsen as the recovery drags on because something as profound as a tornado doesn't heal itself in a year or two. And then in the days and the weeks and months that come where you're looking for things that you can't find and you realize, oh, that's gone - and then dealing with the insurance, finding a new home and then this - that fear. STOUT: You know, you're scared, and you're thankful to be alive. And Tiffany Stout says her heart aches for Mayfield tornado victims. MORRIS: But that realization is hard-won. And you don't have control over everything. There's an awareness that life is precious and short, and you control what you control, prepare for the future. GRAVES: I think there's a psychological awareness across this community. MORRIS: Graves says that kind of environmental hit or shared trauma can show up in higher suicide and drug abuse rates. He says that trauma can make people more vulnerable.ĬHARLES GRAVES: And so because this was such a massive trauma and so many people were exposed, that is an environmental hit to them. MORRIS: Joplin psychiatrist Charles Graves calls her response normal and says that the old adage what doesn't kill you makes you stronger doesn't apply here. And keep it together, and let's be logical. STOUT: You can look around the room when you're gathered there and know who's been through something like this because I know I have to talk to myself like, OK, breathe. They stick out when there's a tornado watch at work. MORRIS: Tiffany Stout says it's easy to tell people who survived the tornado. He - those both two survived the tornado. And inside, I have my blanket that I liked to have when I was a kid, and then I have Pooh bear. And I have it right over here, so it's just this little backpack. But Allie Stout says she still gets nervous when it's stormy, and she keeps her most important possessions close at hand.ĪLLIE: My tornado bag is what I like to call it. MORRIS: Fast-forward 10 1/2 years, and the tiny girl caught in the imaginary whirlwind is now a confident, athletic 14-year-old. And it's blasting off, and we have to lie on the ground (ph). She called it playing tornado.ĪLLIE STOUT: We spin around in circles, and we get in the house and we lie down. And like many children here, in the weeks following, she relived the storm over and over again. Stout's daughter, Allie, was just 3 when the tornado struck. Worse yet, she says, her children lost their innocence. Like more than 9,000 of her fellow citizens, she lost most of her belongings. MORRIS: When she crawled from the wreckage covered in mud, splinters and insulation, her neighborhood as she knew it had vanished. You know, you kind of have an out-of-body experience. And I could feel us coming off the ground, and Shane had his arms over the top of us trying to hold us down. TIFFANY STOUT: It was almost instantly the roof came off of our house. She was wedged in a hallway with her husband, Shane, and their two small children. Tiffany Stout, a human resources director here, narrowly survived. MORRIS: You have to understand the terror of that evening. But Micklethwaite says even all these years later, the pain still remains fresh. Now it looks tidy, new buildings and small trees growing between stretches of open space. Ten years ago, the view from here was heaps of crumpled, splintered rubble stretching for miles. She's standing on a rise built on the wreckage of a hospital destroyed in that storm. MORRIS: Ashley Micklethwaite was president of Joplin School Board when the tornado struck. Visiting Joplin now, it's kind of hard to tell - that is, unless you know what to look for.ĪSHLEY MICKLETHWAITE: If you're from here and you look out over the landscape, I still see the scars. The storm took 161 lives and destroyed $3 billion worth of property. But a Sunday evening tornado, May of 2011, mowed down and chewed up fully a third of this largely working-class city. Frank Morris of our member station KCUR returned.įRANK MORRIS, BYLINE: Lead and zinc mining built Joplin, Mo. Over a decade ago, they were hit by one of the worst tornadoes in U.S. That is something that residents in Joplin, Mo., just a few hundred miles west, know firsthand. Survivors of the recent Kentucky tornadoes are starting to rebuild, which can take many years or even decades. 8/8/2023 0 Comments Ubuntu terminal not opening
